The FLEXmax family of charge controllers is the latest advanced improvement in Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) charge controllers from OutBack Power Systems. The ground-breaking FLEXmax MPPT software algorithm is both continuous and active, it increase your photovoltaic array power yield up to 30% compared to non-MPPT controllers. With the technology of active cooling and intelligent thermal management cooling, the FLEXmax charge controllers can operate at their full maximum current rating, 60 Amps or 80 Amps respectively, in ambient temperatures as high as 104°F (40°C).

this is outback's top of the line solar charge controller. While a little pricy, it works as advertised. Wrings the most power from solar panels, and accepts voltages up to 150V. This allows use of much smaller wire for the run from the panels to the controller. The 10AWG wire I'm using cost a fraction of the 2AWG I would need without this feature. What I really love about this machine is that while it has incredible features and almost endless possible adjustments, I can just hook up 4 wires, tell it my battery is 12 volts, and I'm up and running. No fuss at all. Have three of these feeding the same battery bank, and will probably have a couple more as I add more solar panels to my off grid system. Temps here have been over 100 f. all week and the controllers haven't missed a beat. This product is worth the cost.

This unit increases the effective energy harvest from a solar panel system by about 30%. Bottom line, less panels more effective, more efficient more environmentally friendly.

The Outback FM80 is the real deal. I have it hooked up to my off grid system and it does what it is suppose to do. Find more power from the solar panels. Highly recommended. Very happy to own it.
